On the other hand some disciplines would add a 3rd type calling it mixed asthma. This causes it to be a questionable 3 kinds of asthma.

Allergic Asthma

Extrinsic asthma now generally known as allergic asthma is usually brought on by allergens like dander, etc.

Non-Allergic Asthma

Intrinsic asthma is primarily caused by adrenal glands disorder and/or emotional disorder such as emotional stress, tension and anxiety.

A different approach further subdivides non-allergic asthma into groups like exercise-induced, occupational type, etc.

The type of asthma basically is characterized by what is leading to the attack it. Whether it is external controllable things or something that is internal to the patient the character of the attack are the same. Basically you cannot realize if someone has an intrinsic type of asthma attack or the extrinsic type. Mostly the discomforts are the same.

Both Extrinsic and Intrinsic Combined

This type is a blend of both types discussed above. Mixed asthma sufferer react to certain allergies but also are caused by other intrinsic group of stimulants.
